Trevor was partially evaluated for speech therapy the other day. His teacher just told us that he has comprehension at a high school level. I don't know just how good that is, but it sure sounds cool!
As for his actual speech, I think they still need to evaluate him for that and I know they will find him behind. I know he is not as behind as he seems. Part of the reason might be the fact that he tries to formulate thoughts that he doesn't always have the words for. Part of the reason is also just laziness. He just gets lazy about pronouncing certains letters (like "v"). But he has trouble with some letter combos- "sl" for example.
But I am proud of my little man! When he was first evaluated when he was around 3, he was graded ahead for comprehension and behind in speech, too. But she said he did not need speech therapy, unless we wanted to give it, and that he should catch up in time. The time has come, and he has not caught up, so I am hoping he will be approved for speech therapy twice a week at school and his ennunciation of words will improve vastly.
I wonder if his love of books and me reading him chapter books as helped his comprehension. So far we have read Alice In Wonderland, Farmer Boy, a few books in the Narnia Series as well as many poems by Dahl and Silverstein.
